My glass is half full!

There are lots of questions being asked around the internet world and FOODPICKER is one site that receives great questions from readers everyday.

I am constantly creating new ways to be creative with my healthy diet, but I always enjoy a glass of good wine every now and again. No one should feel the need to give this up if properly planned for. Here is an example of a question about wine that FOODPICKER received and featured this week on their site, please check out http://FOODPICKER.org for more!

Q. What are your comments about having a couple of glasses of red wine with supper? Cheers!

A. Having diabetes does not mean you have to give up alcohol, so long as your alcohol consumption is in moderation. Moderation in alcohol terms equates to having 1 or less alcoholic beverage each day if you are a woman and 2 or less alcoholic beverages each day if you are a man.

You’ll also want to speak with your doctor about whether consuming alcohol is acceptable considering your specific health issues and medications you are taking.

Some research supports alcohol having protective benefits against heart disease. This is controversial because alcohol can be harmful as it increases risk for some cancers and adds empty calories to the diet.

Alcohol generally reduces blood sugar and can lead to hypoglycemia. Judgment can be affected when drinking and one may not be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms due to impairment from overindulging.

If you are going to have a drink, it is recommended you do so with a meal. Food aids in delaying absorption of alcohol.

Why am I starting a blog?

Starting a blog these days is certainly not a novel idea, but spreading accurate information through the internet is. I am a Nutrition Editor at http://foodpicker.org/ and hope to share credible nutrition information to the internet world. So often we look for tidbits of information and so often we are unsure of its accuracy. I am writing this blog to spread accurate nutrition information that people can rely on and pass on to others. Check out http://FOODPICKER.org/ and see for yourself that the information I provide is from a source you can count on. The more we know, the better off we are! Thanks for coming to my blog and feel free to leave a comment or question!
